The AIDE Institute works from that record rather than from surveys or interviews.

AI in what a company sells reaches customers: a feature in a product, a service that would not exist without a model, a pricing or recommendation experience. AI in how a company operates stays inside: forecasting, maintenance, claims handling, code, fraud checks, back-office work. The same company often does both, and the two say different things about maturity.

Does documented evidence mean the AI is working?

No. Evidence establishes that a company describes or documents an activity at a point in time. It does not establish scale, financial return, model quality, or whether a program survived. The AIDE Institute separates documented company activity from company claims and labels its own grouping as interpretation.

Why are some sectors not published yet?

A sector publishes only after its evidence has been reviewed and audited line by line. Sectors still in audit, and sectors whose review has not started, show a note instead of content. Nothing unverified is published in the meantime.

Only when the company has approved being named. Everything else is described by type, such as a large integrated utility or a diversified regional bank, so the pattern is clear without attributing it to a company that has not agreed to it.

It can establish that a company documented an activity at a point in time. It can establish where in the business AI is described, and how consistently. It cannot establish scale, spend, financial return, or model quality. It cannot establish that a program is still running, unless the record says so. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence: a quiet company may still be building.

What is the difference between documented activity, a company claim, and AIDE interpretation?

Documented company activity is something the company states it is doing, with a date and a source. A company claim is an ambition, a target, or a description of value that the record does not independently establish. It is still evidence, but evidence of intent. AIDE Institute interpretation is the grouping: which lens an entry falls under, which functional area it belongs to, and what pattern it forms with other entries. The interpretation is ours and is labelled as such.
